About Me
Jacob Reider MD is a family physician from Slingerlands, New York, where he continues to practice on an occasional basis in a two-physician office, in addition to his primary professional role as Chief Medical Officer for the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology in the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
He has 20 years of experience in Healthcare Information Technology with a special interest in user experience and information portability.
He formerly served as Medical Director of Hospital Informatics at Albany Medical Center, and as Associate Dean for Biomedical Informatics at Albany Medical College where he continues to teach on an adjunct basis. He co-founded two successful health IT startup companies, served as the CMIO of one of the nation's largest EHR vendors, and was on the Executive Committee of the HIMSS EHR Association, and the Board of Trustees of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, and has held leadership roles in the American Medical Informatics Association and the New York State Academy of Family Physicians. His clinical interests include shared decision-making and evidence-based management of common outpatient conditions.
Dr Reider's work at ONC reflects his Attention Deficit Trait (a common attribute of family physicians and HIT geeks) and spans all of ONC's clinical endeavors. He leads a team whose responsibilities include health IT Safety and usability, quality improvement & measurement, and clinical decision support. He is a life-long Red Sox fan, the helicopter father of two adult children, the husband of a brilliant law professor and he is forever seeking be the person his dog thinks he is.
