Q&A with Jacob

HxD asked speakers to tell us what inspires and drives them in healthcare and design. Check out our Q&A with Jacob Reider!

« Previous Next »
  • Q1: What is your burning mission in health?

To fix health care through thoughtful innovation

  • Q2: What is something you want everyone to see?

How the government innovates to improve the health of a nation.

  • Q3: Why it inspires you?

People who do the right thing - for the right reasons.

  • Q4: What is your patient story?

Design and patient care are the same: We do our work best - when we listen well, focus on needs (not wants) and make decisions together. As a medical student - I learned from wonderful mentors how to do this well - and witnessed the tragedies when harried self-important clinicians who 'knew better' disregarded the views of the patients or others. As we collaborate to improve the design of these systems - we need to be motivated by the lives we'll all save - through better safety, better workflow, and better experience.

  • Q5: Why HxD?

Because creative thinkers help us solve problems in new ways.

  • Q6: Why come to your session?

We'll learn together how we can collaborate to make the world a healthier place.

Evolving Health IT User Experience: The View from DC

While federal government's meaningful use incentive program accelerated the adoption of technology in hospitals and medical offices across the United States, users of these systems express concern about their usability and safety. This session will provide a glimpse of the Federal efforts to help health IT designers & developers bridge the gap between where they are and where their users wish them to be.

"Last year's HxD conference was so amazingly inspiring, and has definitely caused me to strive harder and become more passionate about improving our healthcare system." - 2012 HxD Attendee
