About Me

Jane McGonigal is a world-renowned creator of alternate reality games, or games designed to solve real problems and improve players' real lives. She earned her PhD doing games research at UC Berkeley, and is the author of the New York Times bestselling book "Reality is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World." Some of the achievements she has unlocked in recent years include: One of Fast Company's 100 Most Creative People in Business, One of the New York Times' Top 10 Scientists with the Best Vision for the Future, and one of Oprah Winfrey's 10 most inspiring women in the world. She is the first game designer invited to deliver a lecture at the World Economic Forum's annual meeting in Davos. Her classic TED talk "Games Can Make a Better World" is ranked #16 all-time, one ahead of Bill Gates. Earlier this year she was rated the 26th most powerful person in the game industry, one place ahead of the CEO of Angry Birds. Her chief mission in life is to see a game developer win a Nobel Prize.
