About Me

Christopher Herot is the CEO and co-founder of SBR Health. Prior to starting SBR Health, Chris was Chief Product Officer at VSee Lab, a provider of high quality, low-bandwidth and low-cost videoconferencing solutions to enterprises and governments. Chris has been a successful business and technology leader in several high growth companies and directed the advanced technology group for several years at Lotus Development (now IBM), where he was responsible for video, mobile and real-time communication solutions.

Chris received his BS and MS degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was on the faculty of the group that became the MIT Media Laboratory. His leadership skills include:

  • Forward thinking - Highly skilled at identifying and evaluating trends, and introducing new technologies and methodologies into organizations.
  • Entrepreneurial - Founded three companies, formulating strategy,raising and hiring technical team.
  • Versatile - Does whatever it takes to make a startup company succeed, from making customer presentations to optimizing network performance.

  • Q1: What is your burning mission in health?

    Improve people’s health through better communication.

  • Q2: What is something you want everyone to see?

    While you are in the Boston area, take a walk around the MIT campus to see the remarkable collection of sculpture there: large-scale works by Alexander Calder, Louise Nevelson, Henry Moore, Sol LeWitt and others. I’ve always wondered how going to school among these objects influenced each new generation of scientists and engineers.

  • Q3: Why it inspires you?

    I’ve always been awed by the capacity of art to change the way we see the world. One of my earliest memories is seeing Louise Nevelson’s Sky Cathedral at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

  • Q4: What is your patient story?

    During the years before my mother-in-law died, I watched in frustration as her sons and daughters in multiple cities struggles to stay informed about her condition and ensure that she received the best of care. The problems were largely human but as an engineer and an optimist (the latter being a prerequisite for the former), I knew there had to be a better way.

  • Q5: Why HxD?

    This conference brings together a unique combination of talents and personalities. You never know when the person you sit next to at lunch may turn out to have the solution to your problem.

    It will expand your view of what is possible.

The Impact of Virtual Care Delivery Networks on Healthcare

As healthcare shifts from a fee-for-service to a pay-for-performance model, new opportunities are emerging for leveraging technology to drive down the cost of care delivery and manage chronic diseases. One of the artifacts of this change is the creation of health care networks and the virtualization of care delivery across these networks. This has given rise to the need to seamlessly integrate video communications into existing clinical workflows to manage virtual visits and consults across these networks. For application developers, these changes are providing a new frontier of interactive enablement for existing as well as new software solutions catering to the healthcare industry. Mr. Herot will discuss how SBR health has created a video communication web services model to support healthcare designers who are incorporating today?s low cost and cloud-based televideo technologies into their own applications. This model will enable improved user interaction with these complex technologies, greater effectiveness in the integration of products with clinical workflows, and lower cost of development.
